Tiffany and Company was was founded in 1837 by the jeweler Charles Lewis Tiffany. It started as a stationary and fine goods store and named "Tiffany, Young and Ellis" for its three founders. It changed its name in 1853 when Charles Tiffany took control and established the firm's emphasis on jewelry. Shipbuilder and mayor of Seattle, Washington Born 1857 in New York City, Robert Moran served as mayor of Seattle and acquired a large estate on Orcas Island, much of which he donated to be turned into a state park. Moran was mayor from 1888 to 1890, during the great fire that destroyed much of the city. In 1904 he retired to his Rosario estate on Orcas Island.
